happy paczki day

Happy Paczki Day!

Yes, Paczki the golden retriever is named after paczki, the famous Polish doughnut. When she was the tiniest of puppies, all white and fluffy, it just seemed appropriate since she was white and filled with sugar. Happy Paczki Day everyone!

(History Alert!) The history of paczki began with French chefs who came to Poland and brought doughnut recipes with them. Over time and with some gradual changes, the Polish developed their now famous paczki. And for the reason as to why they make so many paczki: they must use all the lard, sugar, eggs and fruit available before Lent – a time for fasting. Paczki Day is observed annually on Fat Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday.
